RF Microneedling

Designed to Firm and Refine Without Surgery

Your skin already knows how to rebuild itself. That principle is the whole basis of RF microneedling. Fine needles and radiofrequency energy work together beneath the surface to prompt your own collagen and elastin to rebuild the firmness that time has been quietly drawing down. At Revive, every session is set to your skin rather than to a protocol, so what changes looks like you, firmer and rested, rather than like something was done to you.

Revive Clinic & IV Therapy treats RF microneedling as what it is, a medical procedure that delivers heat energy into living tissue. Needle depth and energy level are set by your provider for your skin thickness and the area being treated, because settings appropriate for a jawline are not appropriate for the skin beneath your eye. Treatment is planned as a short series with a defined endpoint rather than sold as an open-ended commitment.

Our Middleburg office serves patients from across western Loudoun County and the surrounding hunt country, including Aldie, Upperville, The Plains, Philomont, Purcellville, Marshall, and Leesburg. Revive is a fee-for-service practice offering both clinical care and aesthetic medicine, which means your skin is evaluated by a provider who reads your full medical history rather than an intake form.

Your first appointment is simply a conversation. Your provider will take a close look at your skin, listen to what you would like to change, and walk you through exactly what RF microneedling can do for it. You will leave with a clear plan, a realistic picture of your results, and no pressure to schedule anything that day.

What Is RF Microneedling?

RF microneedling combines two mechanisms in a single treatment. Fine needles create microscopic channels in the skin, which triggers the collagen-building repair response that standard microneedling relies on. At the same time, radiofrequency energy is delivered through those needles directly into the deeper layer of the skin.

That energy heats the tissue at a controlled depth. Heat does two things to collagen. Existing collagen fibers contract immediately, which produces a modest tightening you may notice within days. More importantly, the controlled thermal effect prompts your body to build new collagen and elastin over the following months, which is where the durable change comes from.

The reason this matters is depth. Surface treatments cannot reach the layer where skin laxity originates. Standard microneedling reaches the layer where collagen is made but adds no heat, so it improves texture without meaningfully tightening. RF microneedling delivers energy below the surface, which is also why it is generally appropriate across a broader range of skin tones than many laser treatments. Energy is deposited beneath the skin rather than absorbed by surface pigment.

Revive uses the Cyto-RF® system, which allows the provider to set needle depth and energy level independently. That independence is the clinical advantage. Your provider can treat the thicker skin of the jawline at one setting and the thinner skin of the upper cheek at another within the same session, matching the treatment to your anatomy rather than running a single protocol across your whole face.

The goal is not to pull your face tighter. It is to rebuild firmness in skin that has begun to loosen, so that your face holds its own structure better than it did

What Concerns Can RF Microneedling Address?

RF microneedling addresses early to moderate laxity. It is not equivalent to and does not replace surgical lifting. Where skin looseness is advanced, energy-based treatment can improve skin quality without repositioning tissue, and your provider will tell you honestly which situation you are in.

Treatment Areas

Depth and energy are adjusted for each area within a single session. Areas where fat sits close to the surface require particular care in setting energy levels.

Benefits of RF Microneedling

What Patients Often Notice

Results vary considerably. Age, skin thickness, degree of laxity at the outset, sun history, smoking, weight changes, and your individual capacity to produce collagen all affect the outcome. Patients with early laxity typically see the most satisfying change. Patients with advanced laxity may see improvement in skin quality without the lifting effect they were hoping for. An immediate tightening is sometimes noticeable in the first week from collagen contraction, but that is not the real result. The real result develops over three to six months as new collagen forms.

Treatment Timeline

Most appointments run 45 to 90 minutes including time for topical numbing to take effect.

Skin looks red and feels warm and swollen, more so than with standard microneedling. This typically settles over two to five days.

A visible pattern of small marks in the shape of the treatment tip is common and may remain visible for several days. This is expected and resolves.

Some patients notice a subtle tightening within the first one to two weeks from the immediate contraction of existing collagen. This effect is modest and partly temporary.

New collagen formation begins around four to six weeks and continues developing for three to six months after each session.

Most treatment plans involve three to four sessions spaced four to six weeks apart. Scarring and body areas may require more.

The complete effect of a series is generally assessed three to six months after the final session.

Periodic sessions, commonly once a year, help hold the improvement as collagen continues to decline with age.

What Happens During Your Visit

Your provider examines your skin under good light, assessing thickness, degree of laxity, texture, scarring, pigmentation, and the amount of fat beneath the skin in the areas you want treated. That last assessment matters more here than with any other skin treatment, and your provider will explain why during your visit.

They review your medical history, medications and supplements, allergies, implanted medical devices, any metal implants, skincare routine, recent treatments, sun exposure, and any history of scarring or pigmentation problems after injury or previous procedures.

You will also agree on a plan, including how many sessions are anticipated and what the full course will cost.

Your skin is cleansed thoroughly. A topical numbing cream is applied and left in place for approximately 30 to 45 minutes. Numbing matters more with RF microneedling than with standard microneedling, because the heat is felt in addition to the needles.

A grounding pad is placed on your body, which completes the circuit that allows radiofrequency energy to be delivered safely. Your provider confirms depth and energy settings for each area to be treated

Your provider places the Cyto-RF® handpiece against the skin and delivers the treatment in a systematic pattern across each area, adjusting depth and energy as they move between regions. Most patients describe pressure followed by a brief sensation of heat with each placement. The heat is the part patients tend to remember.

Bonier areas such as the jawline and forehead are usually the most noticeable. Cooling and short breaks are used as needed.

Settings are the whole game here. Energy that is too low will not reach the temperature required to remodel collagen, and the series will underdeliver. Energy that is too high for the area risks burns, blistering, and in rare cases loss of fat volume in the treated area, which is the reason your provider assesses the fat layer during your consultation and treats thin-skinned regions conservatively.

Your skin will be red, warm, and swollen, and the grid pattern may be visible for several days. Swelling is usually most pronounced on the first morning after treatment.

Keep the skin clean and leave it alone. Avoid makeup for 24 to 48 hours, and avoid active skincare ingredients including retinoids, acids, and vitamin C until your provider clears you. Avoid strenuous exercise, swimming pools, hot tubs, and saunas for 48 to 72 hours. Avoid direct sun exposure and use broad-spectrum sun protection daily once your provider clears you to apply it. Sun protection is not optional after this treatment. It affects both your result and your risk of pigmentation change.

You will receive written aftercare instructions at your appointment. Contact Revive Clinic & IV Therapy if anything concerns you in the days following treatment, or if you have questions about what you are seeing.

How Much Does RF Microneedling Cost?

Pricing depends on the areas treated and the number of sessions in your plan. Treating a jawline is a different proposition from treating face, neck, and chest across a full course.

Because RF microneedling is a series rather than a single event, Revive Clinic & IV Therapy discusses the full plan and its cost during your consultation, so you can decide with the whole picture in front of you rather than one session at a time. You will know what is recommended and what it costs before any treatment is performed, and you are free to decline.

Your first consultation is complimentary for new patients.

First Time Considering RF Microneedling?

The most useful thing to understand before you book is the difference between tightening and lifting. RF microneedling tightens. It improves the quality and firmness of skin that has begun to loosen. It does not reposition tissue that has descended, and it will not produce the result a surgical lift produces. Practices that blur that line generate disappointed patients, and it is worth knowing where the boundary sits before you spend anything.

Within its actual range, it does something no cream and no standard microneedling session can, because it is the depth and the heat together that change firmness.

The second thing worth knowing is that this is not a lunchtime treatment. Redness, swelling, and a visible grid pattern for several days are normal, not complications. Plan your calendar accordingly.

At your consultation your provider will assess how much laxity you have and whether it falls in the range this treatment addresses, examine your skin thickness and the fat layer beneath it, review your medical history and any implanted devices, and discuss what you have already tried. You will leave understanding how many sessions your concern is likely to need, what degree of change is realistic, what recovery looks like, whether something else would serve you better, and what the full course will cost.

Maintaining Your Results

Collagen production continues to decline with age regardless of treatment, and the skin laxity you improve will slowly return. Most patients maintain their results with a session roughly once a year, though your provider may suggest a different interval based on your skin and how you responded.

What you do between sessions matters. Daily broad-spectrum sun protection prevents the collagen breakdown that undoes what the treatment built. Significant weight fluctuation affects skin laxity directly and can undo a good result. Not smoking matters more for collagen than any product you can buy.

Many patients pair RF microneedling maintenance with treatments that address concerns outside its range, which your provider will discuss as part of a longer plan rather than as an upsell at checkout.

Why Choose Revive Clinic & IV Therapy?

Revive Clinic & IV Therapy is a nurse-practitioner-led practice. Dr. Gurpreet Bajwa, DNP, FNP-BC, is a board-certified family nurse practitioner who spent more than a decade in urgent care in Ashburn before founding Revive, and who has worked closely with dermatology, endocrinology, and internal medicine. Dr. Bajwa holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree and practices under a collaborative practice agreement with a physician, as Virginia requires.

That background matters here more than with most aesthetic treatments. RF microneedling delivers heat energy into living tissue, and the difference between an effective treatment and a burn is a setting. Screening for implanted electronic devices and metal implants is a medical screening question, not a cosmetic one. Recognizing which patients will pigment, which areas have too little fat to treat aggressively, and when laxity has progressed past what energy can address are all clinical judgments.

Treatment here is planned as a course with a defined endpoint rather than sold as a standing appointment. Settings are matched to your skin rather than to a protocol. And because Revive is a fee-for-service practice, there is no incentive structure pushing you toward more sessions than your skin needs.

We are not going to promise you a facelift without surgery. We are going to rebuild firmness in skin that has started to loosen, and tell you honestly when that is not enough.

Enhance Your Experience

RF microneedling addresses laxity and texture. Patients working toward a broader change often combine it with treatments that reach concerns it does not.

Each recommendation is made individually during your consultation. Not every service is appropriate for every patient, most cannot be performed on the same day as RF microneedling, and results vary. Your provider will advise on sequencing and timing.

Let's Talk About the Result You Want

You probably know exactly what you want, even if you have never said it out loud. A jawline that reads clearly again in photographs. Skin along your neck that stops looking thinner than it used to. Firmness you can see rather than firmness a product claims. Or simply a face that matches how much energy you actually have.

Bring that to your consultation and describe it plainly. The clearer you are about the outcome you want, the more accurately your provider can tell you whether RF microneedling will get you there, how many sessions it will take, and where it will fall short of what you are picturing. That last part matters. This treatment does a specific thing well, and the patients who are happiest are the ones who knew exactly what they were buying.

Your first consultation is complimentary. You will leave knowing what is achievable for your skin, how long it will take, and what it will cost, before you commit to anything.

Frequently Asked Questions

RF microneedling combines microneedling with radiofrequency energy. Fine needles create microscopic channels in the skin, and radiofrequency energy is delivered through those needles into the deeper layer. The needles stimulate collagen through the repair response, and the heat causes existing collagen to contract while prompting new collagen and elastin to form over the following months. It addresses skin laxity and skin texture together.

Standard microneedling creates channels to stimulate collagen but adds no heat, so it improves texture, pore appearance, and scarring without meaningfully tightening skin. RF microneedling adds heat at depth, which is what addresses laxity. RF also involves more recovery and has additional contraindications. If your concern is texture alone, standard microneedling is often the better and less expensive choice.

A topical numbing cream is applied for 30 to 45 minutes beforehand, and most patients tolerate the treatment well. The sensation is pressure followed by heat. The heat is more noticeable than the needles. Areas over bone tend to be felt most.

Most plans involve three to four sessions spaced four to six weeks apart. Scarring and body areas may require more. Your provider will give you a specific estimate after examining your skin.

Redness, warmth, and swelling typically last two to five days, with swelling often most noticeable the morning after. A visible grid pattern of small marks is common and may last several days. This is more downtime than standard microneedling.

Some patients notice a subtle tightening in the first one to two weeks, but the real result develops as new collagen forms, beginning around four to six weeks and continuing for three to six months after each session.

No. RF microneedling improves early to moderate skin laxity by rebuilding firmness. It does not reposition tissue that has descended and it is not equivalent to surgical lifting. Your provider will tell you honestly if your laxity has progressed beyond what this treatment can address.

Generally it is appropriate across a broader range of skin tones than many laser treatments, because the energy is delivered below the surface rather than absorbed by surface pigment. Any procedure that creates heat and inflammation carries some risk of pigmentation change, and your provider will assess your individual history during consultation.

No. Implanted electronic devices including pacemakers and defibrillators are a contraindication, as are metal implants in the treatment area. Tell your provider about any implanted device without exception.

No. Treatment is not performed during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

That depends on how much laxity you have, your skin type and thickness, your medical history, any implanted devices or metal implants, and what you are trying to achieve. Your consultation exists to answer this question honestly. Please review the medical disclaimer below for circumstances in which treatment is not appropriate.

Scope of treatment. RF microneedling addresses early to moderate skin laxity. It is not equivalent to and is not a replacement for surgical lifting procedures. It does not reposition descended tissue.

Who is not a candidate. RF microneedling is not appropriate for individuals with implanted electronic devices, including pacemakers and implantable cardioverter defibrillators, or with metal implants in the treatment area. It is not appropriate with active skin infection or an active cold sore outbreak in the treatment area, with active acne in the treatment area, with certain skin conditions, with recent isotretinoin use, with a history of keloid or hypertrophic scarring, with bleeding disorders, or during pregnancy or breastfeeding. A history of post-inflammatory pigmentation changes, recent significant sun exposure, and certain medications may also affect candidacy. Candidacy is determined only after individual evaluation by a qualified healthcare provider.

Risks. RF microneedling is a medical procedure with associated risks. Expected effects include redness, swelling, warmth, tightness, dryness, flaking, pinpoint bleeding, and a visible grid or tracking pattern that may persist for several days. Additional risks include bruising, prolonged irritation or redness, burns and blistering, infection including reactivation of cold sores, allergic or irritant reaction to products applied during or after treatment, scarring, changes in skin pigmentation which may be temporary or in rare cases prolonged, and rarely loss of fat volume in the treated area resulting in a hollowed or uneven appearance.

Results. Results are cumulative, develop over three to six months, and vary between individuals. Degree of improvement depends on baseline skin condition, age, and individual collagen response. Scarring and laxity may improve without fully resolving. No specific outcome, degree of improvement, or number of sessions required can be guaranteed.
