Chemical Peels
Designed to Reveal the Skin Underneath
Your skin renews itself constantly. New cells form below and rise to the surface, and the old ones let go. That process slows with age, and the layer that lingers on top is the one holding your dullness, your uneven tone, and the surface pigment that has settled in over years of ordinary living.
A chemical peel accelerates that turnover on purpose. It loosens the surface layer so your skin releases it and brings forward the newer, more even skin waiting underneath. At Revive Clinic & IV Therapy, the formulation is selected for your skin rather than chosen from a list, because what works beautifully on one complexion is simply the wrong instrument for another.
Our Middleburg office serves patients from across western Loudoun County and the surrounding hunt country, including Aldie, Upperville, The Plains, Philomont, Purcellville, Marshall, and Leesburg. Revive is a fee-for-service practice offering both clinical care and aesthetic medicine, so your treatment is planned by a provider who knows your full health history.
Your first appointment is simply a conversation. Your provider will look closely at your skin, listen to what you would like to change, and walk you through what a peel can do for it. You will leave with a clear plan, a realistic picture of your results, and no pressure to schedule anything that day.

What Is a Chemical Peel?
A chemical peel is a professionally applied solution that loosens the bonds holding dead and damaged cells to the surface of your skin. Once those bonds release, the outer layer sheds and the fresher skin beneath it comes forward. Depending on the formulation, a peel can also prompt collagen production in the deeper layers, which improves texture and firmness over time rather than only brightness.
Peels are grouped by how deeply they work. Superficial peels refresh the very top layer and suit maintenance and mild concerns. Medium-depth peels reach further and address tone, texture, and surface pigment more substantially. The right depth for you depends on your skin type, your concern, and how much time you want to give it.
Revive offers the VI Peel®, a medium-depth blended formulation designed to work across a wide range of skin types and tones. Its blend allows meaningful resurfacing with a comfortable application, which is part of why it has become a standard in aesthetic practice.
The selection of your formulation is a clinical decision your provider makes after assessing your skin, not a preference you choose from a menu. Matching the formulation to your skin type, your pigment, and your history is the single largest factor in how good your result will be.
The goal is not to strip your skin. It is to move along a renewal process your skin already performs, so the surface you see reflects the skin you actually have underneath
What Concerns Can a Chemical Peel Address?
- Dull skin that has lost its brightness
- Uneven skin tone
- The appearance of sun-related pigment and surface discoloration
- Patchy or blotchy pigmentation
- Rough or uneven texture
- Fine lines around the eyes and mouth
- Enlarged pore appearance
- Congested skin and the appearance of blemishes
- Marks left behind after blemishes have healed
- Skin that looks tired despite a consistent routine
Peels are also used as maintenance. Many patients treat two or three times a year to keep tone even and texture smooth rather than waiting for a specific concern to develop.
Treatment Areas
- Face
The most commonly treated area, addressing tone, texture, and brightness together.
- Neck
Treated with a gentler approach than the face, since the skin here is thinner.
- Chest
Improves the uneven tone and surface pigment that show early in this area.
- Hands
Addresses surface pigment and texture on the backs of the hands.
- Back
Used for congestion and texture where blemishes are a concern.
Your provider will select the formulation and strength for each area, since skin behaves differently in each of them.

What Patients Often Notice
- Brighter, more reflective skin
- More even tone across the face
- Softer texture under their fingertips
- Makeup sitting more smoothly
- Fine lines that read less sharply
- Skin that looks rested and clear
Results vary. Skin type, the concern being treated, the formulation selected, how many treatments you complete, and how consistently you protect your skin afterward all affect the outcome. Surface pigment often responds well, while pigment sitting deeper in the skin usually needs a series and sometimes a combined approach. A single peel produces a noticeable refresh. The change most patients are picturing comes from a course of treatments spaced over several months.
Treatment Timeline
- Application time Most appointments run 20 to 30 minutes.
- Renewal Your skin begins its renewal process within the first few days, and the surface refresh completes over roughly a week.
- First visible change Most patients see brighter, more even skin about a week after treatment.
- Series Most treatment plans involve three to six treatments spaced four to six weeks apart, depending on the concern.
- Building results Improvements accumulate across a series, with tone and texture continuing to refine between treatments.
- Maintenance Many patients treat two to four times a year to hold their results.
What Happens During Your Visit
- Consultation
Your provider examines your skin under good light, assessing your skin type, tone, texture, pigment pattern, and current condition. They review your medical history, medications and supplements, allergies, skincare routine, recent treatments, and recent sun exposure.
Your provider will also tell you whether your skin needs preparation before treatment. Some concerns respond better when the skin has been primed with specific products for a few weeks beforehand, and that preparation is part of the plan rather than an afterthought.
You and your provider will agree on the formulation, how many treatments to anticipate, and what the full course will cost before anything begins.
- Preparation
Your skin is cleansed thoroughly and prepared so the solution can work evenly across the treatment area. Your eyes are protected. Your provider reviews the plan with you before beginning.
- Treatment
Your provider applies the solution in smooth, even layers, watching your skin closely throughout and adjusting as it responds. Most patients feel warmth and mild tingling that builds and then settles. A fan is available for comfort.
The application is timed and monitored rather than left in place for a standard interval, because skin tells the provider when it has had enough. That judgment is what makes a professionally applied peel a different treatment from a product used at home.
Depending on the formulation, the solution may remain on your skin for a period after you leave, with instructions for when to rinse.
- Aftercare Guidance
Keep your skin clean, gentle, and well moisturized while it renews. Set aside your active ingredients, including retinoids, acids, and scrubs, until your provider clears you to resume them.
Daily broad-spectrum sun protection is the aftercare instruction that matters most. It protects the result you just paid for and it protects your skin while it is renewing. Your provider will tell you when and how to apply it.
You will receive written aftercare instructions at your appointment, including a day by day guide and when to call. Contact Revive Clinic & IV Therapy if anything concerns you in the days following treatment.
How Much Does a Chemical Peel Cost?
Pricing depends on the formulation selected, the areas treated, and how many treatments your plan includes.
Because peels work best as a course, Revive Clinic & IV Therapy discusses the whole plan and its cost during your consultation, so you can decide with the full picture in front of you rather than one treatment at a time. You will know what is recommended and what it costs before any treatment is performed, and you are free to decline.
Your first consultation is complimentary for new patients.
First Time Considering a Chemical Peel?
The most common misconception about peels is that a stronger reaction means a better result. It does not. How much your skin sheds is a function of the formulation and your individual skin, not a measure of how well the treatment worked. Some of the best results come from peels that produce very little visible shedding at all.
What actually determines your result is whether the formulation was matched correctly to your skin, and whether you complete the course. That is why your provider selects the peel rather than handing you a menu.
The second thing worth knowing is that peels reward consistency. One treatment brightens. A series changes tone and texture in a way that holds.
At your consultation your provider will assess your skin type and concern, explain which formulation suits you and why, tell you whether any preparation is needed beforehand, and give you a clear picture of how many treatments your goals will take, what to expect, and what the course will cost.
Maintaining Your Results
Your skin keeps renewing, and it keeps accumulating the sun exposure and environmental wear that created the concern in the first place. Most patients maintain their results with a treatment two to four times a year.
Daily broad-spectrum sun protection does more to hold a peel result than anything else you can do, because surface pigment returns fastest in skin that is regularly exposed. A consistent home routine works better on skin that has been treated, since a peel improves how well products absorb.
Many patients alternate peels with treatments that work on the deeper structure of the skin, which your provider will discuss as part of a longer plan.
Why Choose Revive Clinic & IV Therapy?
Revive Clinic & IV Therapy is a nurse-practitioner-led practice. Dr. Gurpreet Bajwa, DNP, FNP-BC, is a board-certified family nurse practitioner who spent more than a decade in urgent care in Ashburn before founding Revive, and who has worked closely with dermatology, endocrinology, and internal medicine. Dr. Bajwa holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree and practices under a collaborative practice agreement with a physician, as Virginia requires.
Peels are a treatment where matching matters enormously. Skin type, pigment, history, and the specific concern all shape which formulation will produce a beautiful result, and that assessment is a clinical judgment rather than a preference. Getting it right is what separates a peel that transforms your skin from one that simply passes the time.
Treatment here is planned as a course with a defined endpoint, and your provider will reassess between treatments rather than repeating the same protocol on a schedule.
We are not going to hand you a menu and ask which one you like. We are going to look at your skin and choose the one that will actually work on it.
Enhance Your Experience
Peels work on the surface of your skin. Patients working toward a fuller change often combine them with treatments that reach deeper.
- Microneedling for texture, pore appearance, and scarring, sequenced separately rather than on the same day
- RF microneedling where skin firmness is part of the goal
- Facials and dermaplaning for regular maintenance between peels
- Neuromodulators for lines created by muscle movement rather than by surface texture
Each recommendation is made individually during your consultation. Not every service is appropriate for every patient, most cannot be performed on the same day as a peel, and results vary. Your provider will advise on sequencing and timing.
Let's Talk About the Result You Want
You know the version of your skin you are hoping for. Even tone in daylight, not just under a good bulb. Brightness that does not depend on what you layered on that morning. A complexion that looks clear and rested when you are not wearing anything at all.
Bring that to your consultation and describe it plainly. The clearer you are about the result you want, the more precisely your provider can select the formulation for it, and the better they can tell you how many treatments it will take and when you will start seeing it. Peels reward patients who commit to a course and protect their skin between treatments.
Your first consultation is complimentary. You will leave knowing what is achievable for your skin, how long it will take, and what it will cost, before you commit to anything.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a chemical peel?
A chemical peel is a professionally applied solution that loosens the bonds holding dead and damaged cells to the surface of your skin, so the outer layer sheds and fresher skin comes forward. Depending on the formulation, a peel can also stimulate collagen in the deeper layers, improving texture and firmness over time.
What is a VI Peel?
The VI Peel® is a medium-depth blended formulation designed to work across a wide range of skin types and tones. Its blend allows meaningful resurfacing with a comfortable application, which is why it is widely used in aesthetic practice.
Does it hurt?
Most patients feel warmth and mild tingling that builds during application and then settles. A fan is available for comfort. Most people find it easier than they expected.
Will my skin peel, and for how long?
That depends on the formulation and on your skin. Most patients experience some shedding beginning a few days after treatment and completing over roughly a week. Some peel noticeably and some barely at all.
Does more peeling mean a better result?
No. The amount of visible shedding is a function of the formulation and your individual skin, not a measure of effectiveness. Some of the best results involve very little visible peeling.
How many treatments will I need?
Most plans involve three to six treatments spaced four to six weeks apart, depending on the concern. Your provider will give you an estimate after assessing your skin.
Can I have a peel if I have a deeper skin tone?
Often yes, with the right formulation. Formulation selection matters a great deal here, which is why your provider chooses it after assessing your skin, pigment, and history rather than offering a menu.
Do I need to prepare my skin beforehand?
Sometimes. Certain concerns respond better when the skin has been primed with specific products for a few weeks before treatment. Your provider will tell you at your consultation whether preparation is part of your plan.
What is the most important thing to do afterward?
Daily broad-spectrum sun protection. It protects your result and your skin while it renews, and it matters more than any other aftercare step.
Can I have IV therapy if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?
Treatment is generally not performed during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Your provider will discuss timing with you.
Am I a good candidate?
That depends on your skin type, your concern, your medical history, and recent sun exposure. Your consultation exists to answer this question honestly.
Who is not a candidate?
A chemical peel is not appropriate for individuals with an active infection or cold sore outbreak, active or severe inflammatory acne, active rosacea, certain skin conditions, recent isotretinoin use, recent sun exposure or tanning, a history of keloid or hypertrophic scarring, a history of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, or who are taking photosensitizing medications, or during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Candidacy is determined only after individual evaluation by a qualified healthcare provider.
What are the risks?
A chemical peel is a medical procedure with associated risks. Common effects include redness, irritation, dryness, burning, swelling, itching, flaking, and breakouts. Additional risks include prolonged redness, infection including reactivation of cold sores, allergic reaction, and delayed healing. Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, meaning darkening of the treated skin, is the most common adverse outcome and occurs more frequently in medium to deeper skin tones, with inappropriate formulation selection, and with sun exposure during healing. Lightening of the skin and scarring may also occur, particularly with deeper formulations. Some pigmentary changes may be prolonged and are rarely permanent.
What results can I expect?
Results vary between individuals and depend on skin type, the concern treated, the formulation selected, the number of treatments completed, and sun protection afterward. Surface pigment typically responds better than pigment sitting deeper in the skin. No specific outcome, degree of improvement, or number of treatments required can be guaranteed.
